If you have noticed that your kitchen is being taken over by equipment you seldom use, it may be time to recover some of that valuable kitchen space. Self-storage units are perfect for the temporary or permanent storing of one's large kitchen appliances.

Refrigerators, freezers, stoves, dishwashers, and microwaves are all examples of large appliances found in kitchens. It is recommended that you disassemble them as much as possible before putting them in storage.

STORING A DISHWASHER

  1. In place of detergent, run a final wash cycle in your dishwasher with bleach or white vinegar.

  2. Allow the equipment at least 24 hours to dry out after washing.

  3. Disconnect the hoses, give them a good scrub, and let them air dry.

  4. To prevent hose damage, wrap them with towels.

  5. It is recommended to store the hoses inside the dishwasher.

  6. Tie the cords to the side of the dishwasher using tape.

  7. Cover your dishwasher with a tarp before transporting it.

STORING A MICROWAVE

  1. Remove the glass tray from the interior of your microwave.

  2. Be sure to give your microwave a thorough cleaning, inside and out.

  3. If possible, keep your microwave within its original box. If you can't find a suitable container, a robust cardboard box will do.

  4. Use bubble wrap to safeguard the microwave.

  5. Tape the microwave's door shut and fasten the cords to the appliance's side using tape.

  6. Protect the microwave from the elements by encasing it in a tarp.
