HAND TOOLS

If your garden tools are not rust-resistant, fill a container with sand and submerge the metal heads of your gardening tools in it. The sand will secure your instruments from the elements and oxygen. Olive oil can be used to anoint the metal surfaces of the instruments; however, care must be taken to store them in a location that will not be stained by the oil.

LARGE TOOLS AND SUPPLIES

Many summer gardening supplies have winter counterparts of comparable size and shape, allowing them to be readily swapped for seasonal convenience. By creating a storage area out of the way for out-of-season supplies, you will always have a convenient method to rotate them.

LAWNMOWER

When autumn leaves begin to fall, empty the gas tank of your lawnmower, and let it run until it stops to clear the lines. Certain varieties of fuel, including unleaded, can coagulate during the winter and pose issues later on. To prevent rodents from entering the mower during the winter, tie a cloth around the exhaust pipe and remove it before using the mower in the spring.

GARDEN HOSE

Before the first autumn cold, a garden hose must be brought indoors because it can crack in the cold. Using a bicycle rack to place the hose's coil in the garage is a convenient method of storage. Ensure that all water has been drained from the hose beforehand, as it will expand when iced and damage the hose.
